Endeavoring to be an example and beacon of light, harbinger of hope and catalyst inspiring countless people worldwide to realize their dreams, achieve joy, success, and fulfillment in life, Atiya emphasizes and believes in thriving communities by bringing people together, inspiring change, and making a difference worldwide. In that regard, she has been involved in numerous projects and collaborations.
In a collaboration with talented artist Jonathan Romain, Atiya’s writings have been displayed at Yale University and St. Michael’s College.
Atiya wrote a family advocacy program which was implemented within the context of a community collaborations program funded by the State of Illinois via a partnership between the Community Mental Health Council, Inc. (Chicago-based organization led by Dr. Carl C. Bell); Urban Services, Inc. (directed by Leonard F. Muhammad); and The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (under the direction of Jesse McDonald). In addition, she helped to assemble a Quality Assurance Panel designed to bring accountability to the Illinois Child Welfare System. The CQA provided oversight of cases and served as a checks and balance system. The advocacy program was established as a model for other states in America to follow.
Further, Atiya along with others formed the community group “Keeping Families Together” who ultimately assisted in helping to reunite numerous families in downstate Illinois over a three-year period. Keeping Families Together became a theme for the Million Family March in Washington, DC. in 2000.
Atiya, over a two-year period helped to spear-head the development and implementation of an internship program where over 200 participants were narrowed down to 13 who were selected to take part in a year-long training program. Through the program, people from the Caribbean, the United States, and the United Kingdom pulled together to help develop young people in Grenada who desired to learn about and seek opportunities in media and the performing arts. Further, Atiya served on the selection team to select the BaylorIC Worldwide-TV Intern of the Year, and through the Atiya’s Light Publishing platform helped the intern’s dream of becoming a published author come true.
In addition to writing under her own name, Atiya has also done Ghost Writing/Commissioned Projects and helped others to put their thoughts and their story in writing and make their dreams come true as published authors. As a way to offer a platform for other authors to fulfill their dream of becoming published, she also expanded the Atiya’s Light Publishing brand to include space for other aspiring authors as well.
Atiya has no qualms about pioneering and using modern technology to the greatest advantage possible and to get the message of love and oneness out by any means necessary. She and her husband took life and relationship coaching to another dimension by offering a way where coaches can tap into a global community and offer coaching on the world stage to assist others in the Black community no matter where they are in the world through the More Love RadioZine. Their goal through More Love is to help communities of colour heal and be able to view the community as a global one, rather than a community that is divided by geography.
As an Ambassador of Peace, Atiya has taken the message of love and unity to various communities around the world. Her travels thus far have taken her to America, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland. Everywhere she goes, she shares the message of universal love and oneness and continues to help bring about world peace. She has been eloquently referred to as a “Queen with a Servant’s Heart.”
From organizing Unity Banquets, Fashion Shows, to Hosting Barak the House Parties for then Senator Barak Obama (Now President of the U.S.), Atiya has met many fascinating people in her lifetime ranging from Richard Pryor, Winnie Mandela, a 104-year old woman in Tennessee to her own three amazingly wonderful children.
Atiya is a humanitarian and most things she has done has been done in-kind. She’s volunteered with a host of organizations including the Boys and Girls Club; 4-H; Sports Makers (London); Young Readers Program (Grenada, West Indies); Girl Scouts of America; the American Red Cross; Illinois Wings (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving and Sharing); Black Family Summit; the Urban League; St. Paul Primary School (Grenada, West Indies); Kansas School for the Deaf; ACE School; Walter Payton Annual Toy Drive.
Atiya attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Illinois and continued her educational experience at Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey through an external degree program. She also earned an Illinois State License in Cosmetology and received certificates in Business Accounting and Professional Training-for-Trainers, as well as earned a certificate from the CMHC after successful completion of their intensive Behavioral Health Clinical Training Program. She became a member of Toastmasters International, receiving designations in their Communication and Leadership Program, and received formalized ministerial training through the N.O.I. where she ministered for close to 15-years and one of few women in the nation who has had the opportunity to speak to the world from the headquartered mosque in Chicago before establishing The Marriage Tree, a ministry that helps men, women, and couples discover their own truth for a better marriage and relationship. She is currently a member of Black Life Coaches Network (BLC LIFE) and the National Association of Professional Women.
Atiya married Ingram Jones in 2011. She has three children and two Nana’s babies.
